IT Security: A Full-spectrum Malware Defense
Experts are urging companies to use new techniques to counter the complexity of malware threats.

Many security vendors and analysts promote the value of a layered defense against malware, involving the use of scanners and filters on all of the possible channels through which malware could enter the enterprise. These rely heavily on signature-based detection.

However, malware is evolving. Automated tools means malware developers can now crank out their products faster than security vendors can add their signatures to their databases. And there are increasing numbers of targeted attacks with malware that have no signatures.

Analysts such as the Burton Group are increasingly urging the use of what they call a “full spectrum defense” – defense-in-depth plus defense-in-breadth – to counter the accelerating pace and complexity of malware threats.
