Traditionally we expect antivirus programs to answer one simple question about any program - we want to know if it's dangerous. But is that the right question? In a paper presented at the Malware 2012 conference, Dr. Arun Lakhotia of the University of Louisiana suggests that the real question may be not "what is it" but "who dunnit?" Who's behind this program? "I'm not presenting a solution, not even a problem as such," said Lakhotia. "I'm presenting a structure in which we can formulate problems and solutions."
