What are the most dreaded words you can read on a new toy or electronic device's package? "Some assembly required," of course! Instead of enjoying your gift, you'll curse it as you find that putting it together is no simple task. Assembling comprehensive computer security from unrelated parts is even worse, as they may not fit together at all. They may combine to unacceptably slow your computer, or they may even detect each other as malware. You're much better off with an integrated security suite, a package that takes care of all necessary tasks, with no assembly required.
The top security vendors offer security suites that integrate a variety of features. Some stick to the basics, while others pile on tons of useful extras. Just read through PCMag's reviews of security suites and select one that has the features you need. I've rounded up a collection of top-notch suites, varied enough that one should be just right for you.
This article briefly mentions the many tests we use to evaluate security suites and determine which ones are best. If you want more details on the torture tests we perform on every product we review, please read the full explanation of how we test security software.
