Check Point researchers discovered a fatal flaw in benign apps baked into Android by most OEMs.

LAS VEGAS—One of the sessions at Black Hat mentioned "pwning millions of Androids," but the abstract didn't go into full detail. And for once, I hadn't seen the news already published elsewhere. I didn't know what to expect, but I sure didn't expect it to be as dramatically alarming as it turned out to be.
Check Point researchers Ohad Bobrov and Avi Bashan started by reviewing the malware category we call mRATs—mobile remote access trojans. People install these nasty little programs to spy on spouses, or for more nefarious purposes. They're undetectable, and they can totally own your phone.
